Privacy: the Zeus connector
The Zeus connector lets you save text from a chat to Zeus — today from Claude and from Codex. This page says what the connector keeps, for how long, and how you delete it. It covers only the connector. It does not cover the chat app you use: Anthropic and OpenAI have their own privacy policies, and the chat app keeps its own copy of your chat.
In short: the connector keeps a copy of what you save until your Mac picks it up, or for at most 30 days, and then deletes it. It does not read the text. It never keeps your GitHub password or your GitHub token.
Words on this page
- Exploration: an idea you are thinking through in Zeus. It has a title, such as “Merges that land without me”.
- Team: a group of people who work together in Zeus. The connector works only for people on a Zeus team.
- Team service: the Zeus Mode server your Mac talks to when you are in a team. The connector is part of it.
What the connector keeps when you save
When you say “save this to Zeus”, the connector keeps:
- the text you saved — a chat, a transcript, a report or other text;
- what kind of text it is, and how long it is;
- who saved it — your GitHub login;
- which app it came from — for example Claude or Codex;
- when you saved it;
- the team it is for;
- the words you used for the exploration, if you named one;
- the exploration those words matched — its title, its number, its repository and which of your Macs it is on — or nothing, if none matched;
- the service’s own numbers for you and for the app.
The connector does not read, search or study the text. It stores it, shows you the list of what you saved, and deletes it.
Your Mac decides which exploration a text belongs to. To do that, your Mac may ask an AI model — through the Claude or Codex you already use on your Mac — which of your explorations fits. The connector itself never sends the text to an AI model.
How long it keeps it
The connector keeps a copy only until a Mac of yours takes it, you delete it, or 30 days pass. If you leave a team, your copies waiting on that team are deleted too.
- Your Mac checks for new saves about every 30 seconds while it is on, Zeus is running and it is signed in to your team. The first Mac of yours to check takes the copy. Then the connector deletes its own copy.
- If no Mac of yours takes a copy within 30 days, the connector deletes it. The Zeus app tells you, the next time your Mac checks in, that a save was deleted this way. To tell you, the connector keeps a short note of each copy it deleted: the words you used for the exploration, the exploration they matched, and the date you saved it — never the text. The note stays until a Mac of yours has shown it to you, and never more than 60 days after you saved.
After your Mac takes a copy, the text is on your Mac. If you add it to an exploration, it is saved as a file in that exploration’s repository, like the rest of your exploration.
Backups. The team service makes a backup of its database once a night. Each backup is deleted when it is 30 days old. So a text you saved can still be in a backup after it is deleted from the service — for at most 30 more days, and about one day more while the deletion runs. Only the people who run the service can open the backups.
What else the team service knows about you
Who you are. You sign in with GitHub, once in each app. The service keeps what GitHub says about you: your GitHub login, your GitHub user number, the email address you made public on GitHub (none, if you made none public), and your name. GitHub gives the service a token to read these; the service uses it once and then throws it away. It never stores it.
Which apps you signed in from. When you sign in from an app, the service gives that app a sign-in of its own. The service keeps a record of each one, so it can check every save and so you can cut an app off.
Your team. Because the connector needs a team, the service also keeps what every team member’s Mac sends it: the team, its members, the names of your Macs, and a short summary your Mac sends as it checks in.
The titles of your explorations. Your Mac sends the service a short line for each exploration: its number, its title, its question in one line, and its repository. This is how the chat can say “saved to Merges that land without me”. Only you can see these lines, through the chat; the other members of your team do not get them. Your notes, your answers and the history of an exploration never go to the service.
A log of what happened. The service keeps a log of actions, such as when you signed in or joined a team. The log is kept with no set end date. It never holds the text you saved.
Who can see what you save
You, and the people at Zeus Mode who run the service. Other members of your team cannot list or read your saves on the service. The people who run the service look at the database only to keep the service working, or when the law requires it.
We do not sell what you save. We do not use it for advertising. We do not use it to train AI models.
How to see and delete what you saved
You can do this in three places. No web page is needed.
- In the chat. Ask “what have I saved to Zeus?” to see what is still waiting. Say “delete it” to remove one.
- In the Zeus app on your Mac. Each save is shown on its exploration’s card, or on the “Unmatched” row of the Explorations list, with a Delete button.
- In the terminal on your Mac, with the
zeuscommand. The guide gives the exact words.
What “delete” removes depends on where the text is now:
- still on the service: it is gone from the service (but see Backups, above);
- on your Mac: it is gone from Zeus on your Mac;
- in a repository: when you ask for it, it is removed in the next round of work on that exploration. Git keeps the history of a repository, so anyone who can read the repository can still find an older version of the file.

How to disconnect an app
You can cut off an app from your Mac or from the chat. That app’s sign-in stops working at once: its next save is refused. Removing the Zeus app from your GitHub settings does not do this; disconnect the app in Zeus.
Where the service runs
The service runs on Google Cloud, in the United States. Everything sent to it travels over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
Changes to this page
If what the connector keeps changes, this page changes first.
